QUICK START GUIDE
Welcome to the 2025 Season of Formula 2 Fantasy.
This year, you will be joining the newest gameplay format, created by Lights Out International.
The basics remain the same; every race weekend, prior to Qualifying, you will select a lineup, choose a driver to be your Turbo Driver (2X points) and optionally activate a Chip that will score you bonus points in a variety of ways.
A few important changes from the Official Formula 1 Fantasy to this game:
1 - There are no more limits on Substitions. You can have a completely different lineup week to week.
2 - Everyone’s Budget is static. You will not gain or lose Budget over the course of the season. No more playing the stock market.
3 - You are not limited to 5 drivers. So long as you remain within your Budget, you may run as many (or as few) Drivers as you’d like.
4 - You can only use each Driver a maximum of 10 times per season.
5 - Constructors are not mandatory. They are now considered a Bonus Chip.
6 - The Winner is no longer the Principal with the most Fantasy Points at the end of the season. Each weekend, whoever scored the most Fantasy Points (for that weekend alone) will earn Championship Points. Whichever Principal has the most Championship Points at the end of the year will be the winner. Essentially, you are aiming to win Race Weekends, not overall Fantasy Points. This will be covered in more detail later.
STEP ONE: REGISTRATION
Register your Team at: https://lightsoutinternational.com/signup.php
STEP TWO: SELECT A LINEUP / TIE BREAKERS
During an active Race Weekend, a clock will be displayed here, counting down to the Team Lock. You can make as many changes to your lineup as you’d like prior to the Lock.
Click on SELECT YOUR LINEUP to view the next page
On the left is the Driver Selection Area. Here you will see a Drivers Ranking in the Championship, how much they cost to add to your lineup, the status of their Qualifying and Race Streaks, and their Predicited Points haul for the weekend. We will touch on that more later.
To add a driver to your lineup, simply click on their name. Your Budget will change as you add / remove Drivers. When you are done selecting Drivers, click Confirm at the bottom of the page.
Choose you Turbo Driver next. Once completed, return to the Lineup Selection Page to see you CURRENT PICKS.
As an option (and at a cost of a Chip and some of your Budget) you may also add a Constructor to your Lineup
Constructors will earn you points from both Drivers. A powerful way to boost your Points production for the week. In the Rules Section, you will see that you are limited to One
Use of each Constructor for the whole season. Using a Constructor is considered using a Chip, and you may only use ONE CHIP per Weekend.
There are a few ways to add funds to your budget over the course of the season. There is a Chip that will add a one time bonus of $5M, plus, there is $6M of “R&D” available to you. You may use as much or as little of this R&D Budget at a time.
The other chart you will notice on the Team Selection Page is the Driver Usage Heat Map. This colorful chart tracks how many times you and your competitors have used a particular Driver. Because everyone is limited to 10 uses of a Driver over the course of the Season, studying this chart can be an integral part of your strategy. Your personal usage will always be displayed between the dotted red dashes in the far left column of the Heat Map.
Constructor Usage is also tracked below. A blank space indicates an unused Constructor.
Tie Breakers
In the unlikely scenario that you and a competitor have identical lineups for a particular weekend (or your unique teams just happen to score the same amount of points), there is an optional Tie Breaking procedure in place.
At any time prior to Team Lock, navigate to Tie Breakers and predict the answer to the 5 questions that will be featured there. As a ultimate TB, the final step is to predict, to three decimal places, what you think the Fastest Lap of the Race will be.
Participating in the Tie Breaker is optional, but highly recommended.
Predict Driver Points
Another option on the Driver Selection Page is “Predict Points”. By Toggling this option, you wil bring up a list of the Drivers. Drag (or click on the up/down buttons) to place the Drivers in the order in which you predict they will finish the race. You will see the Points Predictions changing as you move the order around.
Selecting a lineup, adding chips, choosing your Turbo Driver and locking in your Tie Breaker Picks will get you rolling into your first Race Weekend!
With the basics under your belt, please take the time to read the Rules Page and reach out with any questions you may have.
Good luck!
Every weekend, Principals must submit their Lineup and select their Tie Breaker Picks before Lineup Lock occurs.
Lineup Lock is the start of Qualifying on a regular Race weekend, or the start of Sprint Qualifying on a Sprint Weekend. If there is a discrepancy between the Lock time on the LOI website and the official start time of a session, the Lock time on the LOI website will be used.
Turbo Drivers are Optional and will score 2X Fantasy Points for all sessions. Driver selected must be $4M or less. Cannot use the same Driver in back-to-back Race Weekends.
Should a Principal fail to submit a Lineup prior to the Lock, their previous Lineup will carry over, subject to Budget and Driver Usage restrictions. No Turbo Driver will assigned. Ineligible Drivers will be automatically eliminated from a late Lineup beginning with the lowest Cost Driver, until a legal Lineup is available.
Budget / Research & Development Bonus
At the start of every Race weekend, Principals will have $13M to spend on Drivers and Constructors.
NEW Constructors now cost $3M – there is no cost fluidity, the top constructor cost the same as the bottom constructor, $3M.
Driver Cost is fluid and directly reflects the percentage of F1 Championship Points they hold. Price Changes will occur prior to the start of the following Race Weekend.
NEW An additional $6M R&D Bonus is available to Principals over the course of the entire season.
Adding R&D Funds to your Budget is NOT considered a Chip usage. The R&D Bonus does not expire, and can be used over however many Races the Principal chooses.
Eg. Principals can add $6M to one Race, or $2M to three Races, or $1M to six Races… etc
Driver Usage Restrictions / Requirements
A Principal may only use a Driver ten (10) times per season.
Every Driver must be used at least once per season.
Should a Driver be removed from the Championship prior to the conclusion of the season, the “once per season” rule will be modified to read:
A Principal is required to use two (2) different Drivers per F1 Constructor over the course of the season
Fantasy Points are awarded to Drivers and Constructors at the conclusion of every session. Sessions include Qualifying, Sprint Races and Races.
